Improvements Made to Traditional Shelters:
The traditional houses constructed under the project were improved with features that made them more resilient to future natural disasters. Some of the improvements made to the traditional shelters include:
- Raising the plinth level of the houses to prevent waterlogging during floods.
- Constructing brick walls instead of mud walls to make the houses more durable.
- Building raised platforms for cooking to prevent water damage to stoves and fuel.
- Installing a proper drainage system to prevent waterlogging.
- Installing a proper ventilation system to improve the air quality inside the houses.
The Improved Flood-Affected Traditional Shelter project implemented by the Swabhiman Samiti and ECHO and Action Aid has provided improved living conditions for the flood-affected families, particularly those from vulnerable communities. The project's civil work was completed on 78 houses in three villages, and the beneficiary profile showed that it has benefited a significant number of vulnerable families in the region. The project has also made significant improvements to the traditional shelters, making them more resilient to natural disasters. We hope that such projects will continue to provide support to the affected families and contribute to the development of the region as a whole.
